The CBC is reporting that The Department of Fisheries and Oceans have increased the restrictions on the Star Lake trout fishery this year. The lake, found in central Newfoundland, has both the length of its season and its daily catch limit cut in half.
On that note, a hunting and fishing committee in Buchans are venting their opinion that these measures are not conservative enough. They say the lake should be closed until further studies are done. The amount of anglers at Star Lake has grown dramatically since Abitibi Consolidated constructed a road to the area of the lake for a hydro project. Reports from the fisheries department show that there have been times when over 500 anglers showed up to cast their lines in one weekend.
